Kanteleen Voima began planning the NordFuel project in 2016. The environmental impact assessment of the project was completed in 2017. In the environmental impact assessment, the creation of new jobs, the effect on the local economy and the reduction of emissions were seen as positive impacts.
An extensive and multi-phase wastewater treatment process has been planned in order to minimise water pollution. The aim is to efficiently recycle the water used by the facility.
The project’s concept plan has been completed, and the environmental permit for the bioethanol refinery has been applied for. The next phase in the project includes the further testing of the chosen technologies as well as making plans in preparation for the investment decision.
